Ear, Nose & Throat
Charles Robert Pettit, M.D. is a board certified otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose & Throat specialist or "ENT”), and practices head & neck surgery and treatment of conditions relating to ear, nose and throat issues; hearing & dizziness, tinnitus, sinus & nasal problems, perforated eardrums, ear cleanings, Cochlear implant, vertigo, swallowing problems and acute issues such as broken nose, foreign object removal, and ruptured eardrums.
Dr. Pettit was a pioneer in cochlear implant surgery during residency training, helping establish the cochlear implant, and electrical stimulation of the inner ear, as the standard of care for the deaf of all ages, to 12 months and younger.
Prior to the work of Dr. Pettit and his team at UCSF, the idea of creating meaningful sound with electrical stimulation of the auditory nerve was considered heresy. After residency training Dr. Pettit opted to leave full-time academia, but continued to teach inner ear physiology, both hearing and dizziness, while establishing a private practice in Turlock, California. Later, when his three daughters were school age, he established a practice in Carmel-Monterey, California.
When his children were out of the home and away at school, Dr. Pettit opted to go to Houston, Texas where he joined the largest multi-specialty group in Houston, and practiced at the mammoth Texas Medical Center which employed 55,000 people, in Methodist and Texas Children’s Hospital, both Baylor Medical School teaching hospitals. While in Houston he also studied and worked extensively at Glasselle Art School. He continues to create mostly one-of-a-kind wheel thrown bowls, vases, and chargers.
Dr. Pettit then accepted an offer from California Ear Institute to come to its Santa Rosa branch. When the Institute’s founder decided to leave Santa Rosa, and concentrate on its home office at Stanford. Dr. Pettit decided to remain in Santa Rosa where he worked part-time in the Kaiser ENT clinic while preparing to open his own practice. It was at that point that he met and joined the staff at the Integrative Medical Clinic of Santa Rosa.
